Safadi, Counterparts Talk Cooperation, Ties

New York, Sep 24 (Petra) -- Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and India's Foreign Minster Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held a meeting in New York for talks on strengthening Jordan-India cooperation, the Palestinian issue and efforts to uphold security and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reported that Safadi and Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan affirmed during a meeting the common interest in strengthening bilateral ties, building on agreements between the two countries and continuing coordination and cooperation on combatting terrorism, especially within the framework of the Aqaba meetings.
The Ministry noted that Safadi and Cyprus Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides viewed the steps taken by Jordan and Cyprus to enhance bilateral cooperation and regional cooperation efforts, especially in the context of the trilateral cooperation mechanism with Greece.
Safadi met with the Slovenian Foreign Minister, Tanja Fajon, and discussed the priorities of cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic, trade, investment, development, educational and tourism fields. They also discussed cooperation within the EU framework.
The Ministry reported that Safadi discussed yesterday with his Tunisian counterpart, Othman al-Jarandi, the strengthening of bilateral ties, the continuation of coordination and consultation on regional issues and ways to activate the mechanisms of joint Arab action to confront common challenges.
Safadi and his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili followed up on their talks in Amman last May, emphasising their keenness to expand bilateral cooperation, especially in economy, culture, education, defence, agriculture and tourism.
The Ministry said that Safadi discussed yesterday with the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian bilateral issues and efforts to reduce regional tension, in addition to the situation in Syria, especially in southern Syria and the challenge of drug smuggling to Jordan.
Safadi said that easing regional tension requires addressing all its causes and building regional ties based on the principles of 'good neighbourliness' and non-interference in other countries affairs.
According to the statement, Safadi and his Australian counterpart Penny Wong discussed the prospects for strengthening bilateral ties, discussing several regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause.
Safadi valued Australia's support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and thanked his Australian counterpart for doubling Australia's support from $10 million to $20 million.
Safadi held a meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of the UN and High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Moratinos, and discussed international efforts to promote dialogue among civilisations.
He discussed with the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen's efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The Ministry said that Safadi met yesterday with representatives of the American Jewish Committee and discussed with them the necessity of finding a political horizon for reinvigorating negotiations to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution, reviewing the Jordanian-American strategic partnership.
Safadi met with the CEO of the International Crisis Group Comfort Aero.
