BOGOTÁ, 23rd September, 2022 (WAM) -- The visiting Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC), Saqr Ghobash, discussed with Olga Lucía Velásquez, First Vice President of the Chamber of Representatives of Colombia, developing parliamentary relations between the two sides in light of the keenness of the leaderships to push them forward in various fields of common interest.
They also discussed the relations of friendship and parliamentary cooperation between the two councils, enhancing coordination, consultation and exchanging opinion on various issues of common interest, increasing communication and exchanging visits between the two councils.
The FNC and the House of Representatives of Colombia signed in April 2021 a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the first to be signed virtually by the FNC due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Saqr Ghobash lead a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Latin America from 12th to 22nd September, 2022.
During the 10-day tour, Saqr Ghobash held discussions with speakers of the parliaments of Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Colombia, on strengthening cooperation, particularly in the parliamentary field, with these countries.
The four-nation tour aimed to promote strategic partnerships and keep pace with the growing relations between the UAE and these countries.
