KABUL (Pajhwok): The municipality of eastern Nangarhar province has collected 272 million afghanis in revenue this year despite challenges following the regime change.
Bakhti Jan Murad, a spokesman for the municipality, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Tuesday that the municipality the year before last year had been able to collect 290 million afghanis from cleanliness, contracts and other revenue sources in Jalalabad City.
Murad said:“At first, after the regime change we had problems in terms of revenues. The revenue department faced deficit after the change in political system but we still were able to collect 272 million afghanis in revenue.”
He said in the last one year, various ways were improved such as prevention of encroachments and congestion in Jalalabad city and many parts were established based on urban order.
He said the mayor in the past had no authority to spend budges but currently this problem had been solved and reconstruction work was underway in the city.
He added talks were underway with an international organization and work on 58 different reconstruction projects would be launched in 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th police districts of Jalalabad City.
“These projects would be implemented according to people's demands and needs.”
About the lack of sewerage in the city, he said the issue was paid no attention in the past and now they were working to find a solution.
But Murad said the construction of Nangarhar's canalization required at least 20 million dollars.
According to him, a number of organizations were working for the development, construction and organization of the city in the past, but with the fall of the previous system, these organizations stopped working.
Now some works were ongoing in the city only with the revenues of the municipality, he said.
