Ukraine, Moldova Launch New Train Route Replacing Bridge Over Dniester Estuary

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) On August 22, 2022, with the participation of Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and Moldovan Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spînu, the upgraded railroad section, Berezyne (Ukraine)-Basarabeasca (Moldova), was opened.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry on Facebook , an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The restoration of this route [Berezyne-Basarabeasca – Ed.] became vital in view of continuous attacks by Russian occupiers on the bridge over the Dniester estuary. Now we have an alternative – the main railway route to link Odesa and the Danube ports, Reni and Izmail, which is reliably connected to railway services. We expect to reach an average cargo transportation rate of 10 million tonnes per annum here,” Kubrakov told.

Train services in the Berezyne-Basarabeasca railway section were restored as part of the efforts made by the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry to increase the traffic capacity at Ukraine's western borders with EU countries and the Republic of Moldova.
