Salman Rusdhie's ex-wife Padma Lakshmi on her recovery: "Can finally exhale"

(MENAFN) The attack on author Salman Rushdie last week in New York, United States, shocked and horrified the entire globe, and details and reactions are still coming to light today. Rusdhie, 75, was stabbed repeatedly while attending a literary event in New York on Friday.

After receiving a barrage of comments, Padma Lakshmi, Rusdhie's ex-girlfriend, said she was "worried and speechless" by the news but that she could "finally exhale" as more information about his health came to light. "I'm glad to hear that @SalmanRushdie is recovering after Friday's nightmare. Finally able to breathe out, worried and speechless. Now praying for quick recovery," she wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

Rushdie and Padma Lakshmi, an Indian-American novelist, TV host, and model, were wed from 2004 to 2007. Laksmi also serves as the host of the hit program "Top Chef." Due to widespread worries about his status, Rusdhie was removed off the ventilator over the weekend.

After Rushdie was attacked, a 33-year-old Fatwa from Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, was brought to the attention of the world.
