New name, logo for Russian "Starbucks"

(MENAFN) The Moscow 24 station announced on Wednesday that the Starbucks coffee business are going to begin operations in Russia under the new trade name "Stars Coffee." The mermaid on the emblem is going to be replaced, according to the media, with a young woman wearing a traditional Russian 'kokoshnik' headgear. According to reports, on August 18, coffee shops in the Russian capital would debut under the new moniker.

Rapper and entrepreneur Timati (Timur Yunusov) from Russia claimed last month that he and his partner Anton Pinsky had acquired the whole Russian portfolio of the United States coffee giant. The purchasers acquired the employment contracts of Starbucks' 2,000 employees as well as the leasing agreements for all 130 of the company's coffee shops in Russia.

Starbucks, which has been operating in Russia since 2007, stated in March that it was temporarily halting all commercial operations there owing to Western penalties, including the sale of goods. The business announced its intention to leave the Russian market on May 23, but promised to support its employees there by paying their salaries for the next six months and helping them find new jobs.
