Kosovo Premier warns of new war’s risk with Serbia

(MENAFN) Kosovo’s Premier Albin Kurti stated the risk of a new war between Kosovo and Serbia is high, as the situation in the area changed following the Ukrainian conflict.

Kurti remarked on the high strains between both nations in the previous few weeks in an interview with Italian daily La Repubblica.

"The risk of a new conflict between Kosovo and Serbia is high. It would be irresponsible if I say otherwise, especially after the world saw what Russia did to Ukraine," Kurti added.

Kurti also claimed that "before the invasion of Ukraine, the possibilities were few, but now the situation has changed”, arguing that Russia was behind the strains they saw with Serbia.

Kurti declared he wished “this will help reduce the tension" claiming that there will be a conference regarding the general situation of Kosovo-Serbia ties in Brussels the following week.

Kosovo's premier went on to say that joining NATO would contribute to meet long-lasting peace.
“Our position is transparent and it’s based on Euro-Atlantic values,” he further underlined.
