Baku: Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti underlined the position of the State of Qatar aimed at settling disputes and conflicts by peaceful means and through active participation in multilateral international action, in order to achieve peace, security, stability and development for the benefit of the peoples of the world.
In a speech she delivered while heading the Shura Council delegation participating in the activities of the second day of the Baku conference of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, which is currently being held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, Dr. Hamda added that Qatar has hosted many regional and international mediations, and as a reliable mediator, it has been able to resolve many of the conflicts, the most recent of which was the prominent role in resolving the Afghan crisis by hosting talks between the various Afghan factions and the United States, and followed by tremendous efforts in evacuating and accommodating thousands of Afghan and foreign citizens, and operating an air bridge to transport relief materials to the Afghan people, with the constant emphasis on the need for continued humanitarian assistance for this people and for separating them from political dispute.
She pointed out that this meeting comes in light of the rapid developments in international relations, tensions, conflicts, wars and instability, and the migrations and displacements the world is facing, which threatens international peace and security.
The Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council stressed the importance of cooperation and joint action in order to complete the struggle towards liberation and independence, politically, economically and socially, pointing in this context to what the Palestinian people are exposed to. She said despite the struggle of the Palestinian people, which has continued for seven decades in the blessed land of Palestine, the occupier still does not care about laws and international legitimacy, and does not respond to calls and appeals of the civil society, adding that world leaders and members of the Non-Aligned Movement continued to affirm their positions on the issue through its 18 summits, and demanded the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within its legally recognized borders.
Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti praised the role of parliamentarians as members of the Non-Aligned Movement, indicating that this role will only bear fruit with internal cooperation and solidarity among the members of the movement, stressing the position in support of just causes that have been at the fore in the final statements of the summits of Their Highnesses and Their Excellencies Heads of State and delegations of the Non-Aligned Movement, most notably the Palestinian issue, which is witnessing a dangerous escalation today, and a reluctance to peace efforts by the occupying entity, due to its internal political conditions and partisan rivalries.
Concluding her speech, Dr. Hamda called on the network to adopt the final statements of the movements summits, in particular the final statement of the 18th Baku Summit, which firmly emphasized the need for a peaceful solution to disputes and the non-use or threat of force, a principle that H H the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has always maintained. The Amir of Qatar (may God protect him) has been calling for making it a binding law.
She also called on the members of the movement to abide by the outcomes of the summits, especially with regard to articles calling for respect for religions and refraining from offending the religious symbols and sanctities of peoples.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council met separately with Vice-President of the National Assembly of Venezuela H E Vanessa Montero Lopez and Vice-President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the Gambia H E Dr. S Abdullah Ahmed.
During the meetings, they discussed areas of cooperation and consolidation of relations between the Shura Council and these parliaments as well as a number of topics on the conference's agenda.
The meetings were attended by members of the Shura Council H E Youssef bin Ali Al Khater and H E Nasser bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi and Qatar's Ambassador in Baku H E Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab.
