Mongolia establishes nationwide program to minimize road accidents

(MENAFN) Mongolia started a countrywide campaign on Monday to enhance public awareness of the causes and consequences of traffic accidents.

The National Police Agency, one of the co-organizers of the three-month-long campaign titled "You will reach your destination even though you travel slowly," stated in a released announcement that activities will include a sequence of briefings and conferences on road safety, arbitrarily checking vehicles on rural roads, and placing banners and posters on preventing road accidents.

Road accidents in Mongolia occur during the summer and tourist seasons because the number of people traveling to the countryside grows considerably, according to the police agency, which urges drivers to obey traffic laws in order to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Overspeeding, intoxicated, irresponsible, and fatigued driving, as well as unpermitted overtaking, are cited as the leading causes of road accidents in the nation.

According to authorities, 7,408 traffic accidents occurred across the country in the first five months of this year, killing 195 people and badly injuring 1,087 others.
