Doha: Alfardan Group announced yesterday that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative—a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation, and disclosure of responsible business practices.

Alfardan Group has been one of the leading and foremost family-owned conglomerates in Qatar and the region for the past 65 years. A premium group of companies covering many industries and sectors, by staying true to its inherited family values and maintaining its tradition of high standards.

With this announcement, Alfardan Group is proud to join thousands of other companies globally who are committed to taking responsible business action to create the world we all want.

The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption, and to take action in support of UN goals and issues embodied in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 9,500 companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries, and more than 70 Local Networks. This will provide unprecedented networking access with UN Global Compact participants – representing nearly every industry sector and size, in over 160 countries. This will create the opportunity to access partnerships with a range of stakeholders in order to share best practices and emerging solutions.

Omar Hussain Alfardan (pictured), President and CEO of Alfardan Group said,“In line with our commitment, Alfardan Group will adhere to these principles. This will also enable Alfardan Group to access a wide range of expertise and learn from the UN Global Compact's expertise on this topic to take our sustainability efforts further. Alfardan Group is keen to extend the UN Global Compact Principles and goals to its various business sectors and partners and bring them on board as part of its effort. We are proud to join the United Nations Global Compact initiative. Together with many other committed companies across the globe, we are pleased to work towards surpassing challenges and creating the workplace of the future. This is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, improving quality of life of all, while continuing to strive to provide exclusive experiences.”
