Doha: The 14th Doha Conference for Interfaith Dialogue is very important and relevant because it addresses the menace of 'hate speech' which threatens people from time to time at different parts of the world, said a participant from Kazakhstan.

“Interfaith dialogue provides a platform to people with different backgrounds to know each other and develop understanding for coexistence; to lead a peaceful and happy life,” said Chairman of the board of N Nazarbayev Center for Development of Interfaith and Inter-Civilization Dialogue (NP JSC), Sarsenbayev Bulat.

Bulat was speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of 14th Doha Conference for Interfaith Dialogue at Sheraton Doha Hotel yesterday.

“We also held a number of similar events in Kazakhstan. Last year for example, under the chairmanship of the Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev we held the 19th Secretariat of Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, where we hosted a delegation from 20 countries,” said Bulat.

He said that they discussed a number of issues from different points of views during the meeting.“Finally we came to the conclusion that such events help in promoting mutual understanding among people with different religious backgrounds, including Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Jews and others.”

He said that all religions teach their followers to live peacefully and shun radicalism.“Addressing the conference on first day, all speakers from different religions, like Islam, Christianity and Judaism, stressed on the need to promote peace and coexistence which is the main purpose of holding such conferences,” said Bulat.

He said that 14th Doha Conference for Interfaith Dialogue is a golden opportunity for people to meet each other in the conference hall and out of it throughout their presence at the event.
Bulat said that the participants get a chance for one-to-one meetings enabling them to develop a better understanding of religious and cultural differences of other people.“We are going to hold a similar event '7th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions' in September in Nur-Sultan. It will be attended by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The theme of the congress will be 'The role of leaders of world and traditional religions in the spiritual and social development of humanity in the post-pandemic period',” said Bulat.

He said that the congress will be attended by representatives of Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Shintoism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism and other religions.

“The congress will be attended by Pope Francis, as well as delegations of leading religious' organisations and representatives of states.”

He said that several session will be held under the congress to discuss different topics such as 'The role of religions in strengthening spiritual and moral values in contemporary world', 'The role of education and religious enlightenment in strengthening the respectful coexistence of religions and cultures, justice and peace', 'The contribution of religious leaders and politicians to the formation of global inter-religious dialogue and peace, countering extremism, radicalism and terrorism, particularly religiously motivated' and 'The contribution of women to well-being and sustainable development of society and the role of religious communities in supporting the social status of women'.

“The Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions which was established in 2003 is going to complete two decades next year,” said Bulat.
