Sheikh Joaan Presents London Olympics Silver To Barshim
Qatar Olympic Committee President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani handed over the silver medal of London 2012 Olympics to Qatar's high jumper Mutaz Barshim, on the sidelines of the Doha Diamond League at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium, yesterday.
Barshim's father Essa Mohamed and Qatar Athletics Federation President Mohamed Al Fadhala were also present on the occasion. In November last year, nine years after winning high jump bronze at the London Olympics, Barshim's medal was officially upgraded to silver.
Russian Ivan Ukhov, who had won gold, was proven to have taken part in the Russian state-backed steroid doping programme, while United States' Erik Kynard, who had finished second, took gold.
