Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Dubai 20 April, 2022: Latifa Hospital for Women and Children has appointed Dr. Fadi Mirza as the Head of its Obstetrics Department.


Dr. Fadi Mirza is an internationally acclaimed Maternal Fetal Medicine physician with a strong academic background. He joins Latifa Hospital after an illustrious career at Columbia University Medical Center in the Unites States and the American University of Beirut Medical Center in Lebanon. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) in both Obstetrics and Gynecology as well Maternal Fetal Medicine, and he is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).

Dr. Mirza received his medical degree from the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Lebanon before he relocated to the United States of America for post-graduate training. He completed a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He then pursued a three-year fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Columbia University in New York, New York. Upon completion of his post-graduate training, he joined Columbia University as a full-time faculty, where he was active inpatient care, education, and research. He then joined the full-time faculty of AU and he continued to hold an adjunct faculty appointment at Columbia University. 


At AUB, Dr Mirza taught medical students and residents. He was also a member of the Faculty of Medicine Admissions Committee and served on the thesis committee of a number of graduate students. Additionally, he was the Director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training program, an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education- International (ACGME-I) accredited program, for three years.

 
Dr Mirza has held a number of senior positions at the American University of Beirut Medical Center; most notably, he served as the Founding Director of the Clinical Practice Improvement Program of the hospital and as Co-Chairperson of its Patient Safety Council. He was also the Chairperson of the hospital's Credentialing and Privileging Committee. He had previously served as the Director of Medical Staff Affairs. In these senior roles, he worked closely with the hospital's leadership and various departments as well as with the Joint Commission International (JCI) and its surveyors on a number of initiatives and site visits. At Latifa Hospital, he was appointed as Director of Maternal Fetal Medicine and shortly after promoted to Director of the Department of Obstetrics.
Dr. Mirza has been an invited speaker, Course Director, and Congress Chairperson at several national, regional, and international global conferences. He is the recipient of many awards, including the Berlex Best Teaching Resident Award (USA), Outstanding Chief Resident Award (USA), and the prestigious Award of Research Excellence of the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine (SMFM, USA). 


Dr. Mirza has presented many scientific abstracts and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles. Given his international recognition, he was invited to serve on a number of local, national, and international scientific committees, including the International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO)'s intrapartum fetal monitoring consensus panel. He has served for two terms from 2018 to 2022 as member of the managing board of the Lebanese Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology (LSOG) and as Chairman of its Scientific Committee. He has also served as the Co-Chairperson of the Scientific Committee of the Federation of Arab Gynecology and Obstetrics Societies (FAGOS). In 2018 and 2022, he was elected to the Board of Trustees of the Makassed Philanthropic Association. In the latter, he also serves as the Chairperson of the Board's Health Committee that oversees a tertiary care medical center and a number of ambulatory care centers. In 2020, he was elected Vice President of the Lebanese Joint Coalition Against Thrombosis (LJCAT). In 2022, he was elected President of the Emirates Fetal Medicine Society (EFMS).
