DUBAI, 30th March, 2022 (WAM) -- The media outlets in Uzbekistan are looking forward to the Global Media Congress to be held in Abu Dhabi in November to improve their relations with the international media, a top Uzbek media official told the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

'The Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) sees strengthening ties with the media on a global scale as its strategic task. We are striving to further strengthen the ties with the most advanced and most popular media across the globe,' said Abdusaid Kuchimov, Director-General of the UzA, during his recent official visit to the UAE.

He said the Global Media Congress will help improve relations not only between Uzbekistan and the United Arab Emirates, but also between several media outlets around the world, and added, 'Our Uzbek correspondents will cover the Congress.'

Global Media Congress

The UzA chief was referring to the first edition of the Global Media Congress, to be held in Abu Dhabi from 15th to 17th November 2022 and organised by the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) in a strategic partnership with the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, the event will include a media conference and exhibition, which will enable various media organisations to discuss partnership and cooperation agreements.

Prominent media leaders and global influencers, in addition to academics and students, will attend the Congress, which will discuss several key topics such as digital communication, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and innovation in the media sector. It will host specialist sessions covering journalism, radio, television, internet, social media and international influencers.

The event will serve as a platform for international companies interested in engaging in media markets in the Gulf region, the Middle East and North Africa.

Growing Uzbek media landscape

Uzbekistan is doing all efforts to develop its media sector and help expand the media outlets' creative cooperation with the global media, the UzA chief said.

'Over the past 5 years, 10 new television channels have been opened in our country, more than 20 online portals have been registered. In general, the number of media outlets in Uzbekistan increased by 30 percent during the same period,' Kuchimov revealed.

About 1962 media outlets are operating in Uzbekistan and 1232 of them, about 63 percent, are non-state media, he added. Around 39 of them are television studios and channels, 33 are radio stations and 557 are websites, the news agency chief explained.

'We maintain close ties with news agencies of many countries,' he said, adding that UzA has been cooperating with China's Xinhua News Agency for many years and has signed cooperation deals with news agencies in India, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Korea and many other countries.

Expanding media reach

'We have concluded contracts, memorandums, agreements with the news agencies of all the states of Central Asia, Azerbaijan and dozens of news agencies of the world,' noted the official who signed a cooperation agreement with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) during his visit to the UAE last week.

The agreement signed by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, and Kuchimov aims to promote the exchange of news and conduct joint employee training programmes.

Al Rayssi highlighted WAM's eagerness to establish a wide network of partnerships with international media outlets, and his delight to host UzA at the Global Media Congress in November.

Talking about the UzA's development plans, Kuchimov said, 'To be honest, in my opinion, we have a lot to do.'

Although the agency is providing news in eight languages, including Arabic, Russian, French and English, it wants to further expand its reach. 'I hope our Agency will soon have its own office in UAE. We are also planning to open offices in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Europe and America,' he revealed.
