'BYH reflects housing industry's role in Qatar's construction boom'

Doha: The Build Your House (BYH) Exhibition 2022 which opened under the patronage of the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) yesterday, reflects the important role played by the housing industry in supporting Qatar's construction boom as the country moves towards the completion of various development projects under the Qatar National Vision 2030, Minister of Commerce and Industry H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Abdullah Al Thani has said. 

The Minister, who inaugurated the three-day event, toured the expo which features over 150 exhibitors showcasing the latest services and products in the housebuilding industry. 

In a statement, the Minister added that the exhibition provides visitors the opportunity to discover prominent technological developments and the best international practices in the field of engineering, construction and design. BYH 2022 also forms a key platform to strike fruitful and successful partnerships with specialist companies and consultants in the field, in support of the national economy, he added. 

Speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the expo, Petula Rame, Sales and Programs Manager at event organiser NeXTfairs said over QR600m worth of deals are expected to be signed during the exhibition, amid a vibrant Qatari market that is moving towards a post-pandemic era. The last two editions of BYH have generated over QR400m worth of deals per edition during the pandemic. 

This year's expo also highlights the growing popularity of building sustainable smart homes in Qatar's housing market, with around 20 companies launching their sustainable technologies during the event. 

“Many of the companies are happy to launch their new technologies through BYH, and the visitors are also interested to learn how to build their houses by adopting the best technologies at cheaper rates. Overall, we have around 250 brands being showcased at the expo, with the participation of 50 international companies from Portugal, Turkey, Switzerland, and Oman,” Rame added. 

Talking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the 'Future and Smart Living Conference' at the expo, Director of Al Wakrah Municipality at the Ministry of Municipality Eng. Mohammed Hassan Al Naimi, who was also a panel speaker during the event said there is huge potential for the smart home market to grow in Qatar. 

“Building sustainable smart homes is a new technology in Qatar, and we see this sector growing even further. I have also just finished building my house several months ago, and have completed fixing the electronics system for digital home, so we can control anything in the house from anywhere. With the growing trend in sustainability and smart homes, we will see more people also adopting these technologies in their houses,” Al Naimi added. 

The BYH Exhibition brings leading construction industry experts, government entities, companies and Qatari homebuilders together under one roof. The exhibitors represent five main sectors including consulting services, contracting, supply, public services, and smart solutions.

As many as 28 key speakers from the Civil Defence, Ashgal, Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, AIA Middle East, Jaidah Group, Qatar University and VCUarts Qatar will discuss a wide range of topics from technical requirements to smart home solutions for assisted living during the conference. 

Winners of the Junior Interior Designer Competition which was held by BYH in conjunction with VCUarts Qatar will also be announced during the expo. Other exhibitors during the event also include Ashghal, Kahramaa, Ministry of Social Development and Family, Qatar Development Bank, Commercial Bank of Qatar, Tadmur Trading, The Yard Qatar, Living Spirit, Al Hattab Holding, Atkya Art, Al Emadi Stones, and Jotun Paints Qatar.

Earlier, the ribbon cutting ceremony was also attended by a number of Ambassadors and VIPs including the Vice-Chairman of Al Hattab Holding Abdul Aziz bin Hattab Al Kaabi, Qatar Chamber's Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani and Director-General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi, as well as Ambassadors from Egypt, Lebanon, Tajikistan, Portugal, Italy, Turkey, Germany and Oman.
