University of Washington publishes language guide for offensive words

(MENAFN) The information tech department in the University of Washington issued a fresh language guide emphasizing “problematic words” which people always use but are allegedly racist sexist, ageist, or homophobic.

This group of words include “grandfather,” “housekeeping,” “minority,” “ninja,” and even “lame.” For instance, “lame” is a problematic word due to the fact it is a slang word for “uncool” and “it’s using a disability in a negative way to imply the opposite, which would be not lame, to be superior,” as the language guide entails.

There are many historic, race or gender related reasons into why other words are considered to be offensive. The university mentions that the word “housekeeping” might “feel gendered.” Also, any word including “man” like “manpower,” “man hours,” or “middle man,” is sexist due to it being unexclusive.
