Panama - Taboga clamps down on New Year picnics

A Taboga mayoral decree issued Friday, December 31, 2021, threatens visitors to the“island of flowers” with fines of $50 to $100 if they arrive with food in containers or pals The decree also reiterates the prohibition of transporting alcoholic beverages.

'The transport of food and alcoholic beverages destined for consumption on the beaches represents a source of contamination and spread of the Covid-19 virus and its variants,' says the decree.

The measure also establishes that night-time establishments and activities in the district of Taboga and its townships will be regulated until 3:00 a.m.

Those who fail to comply with the last provisions will be hit with fines of up to $500.

Dozens of travelers complained on Saturday morning, January 1, about the ban on entering with prepared meals, reports La Prensa.

Tour operators indicated that only snacks and bottled water are allowed to be transported.
