New Zealand prepares new legislation to decrease smoking rates
(MENAFN) On Thursday, December 9 New Zealand revealed its scheme to stop smoking tobacco in the nation by using interesting regulations, such as a ban for life for young smokers.
Ayesha Verrall, Associate Health Minister, informed the parliament that the government of NEW Zealand is preparing a new law including that the country’s upcoming generation will not have a legal authorization to purchase tobacco.
She stated, while declaring the Smokefree Aotearoa 2025 Action Plan, that “we want to make sure young people never start smoking so we will make it an offense to sell or supply tobacco products to new cohorts of young people.”
She added, “People aged 14 when the law comes into effect will never be able to legally purchase tobacco … New laws will mean only smoked tobacco products containing very low-levels of nicotine can be sold, with a significant reduction in the number of shops who can sell them.”
