400 more refugees depart Belarus on airplane to Iraq

(MENAFN) Over 400 refugees who had departed to Belarus in hopes to pass through the border into the EU arrived into the country on Saturday on an Iraqi Airways airplane headed for the city of Irbil in northern Iraq, Minsk’s airport reported.

On Thursday, the EU forced penalties on Belarus after blaming it of putting immigrants, mostly from the Middle East, and driving them to unlawfully pass through the Polish border to cause a disaster, an accusation Minsk refutes.

Minsk airport authorities stated in an announcement a Boeing 747-400 would take 415 adults and four children on Saturday to Irbil, the capital of Iraq’s independent Kurdish area. The airport’s site later registered the flight as having left.

Iraqis who flew searching for economic opportunity and in some cases political refuge started to come back to their motherland the previous month after failing to go into the EU through a way that individual smugglers assured them would work.
