Indonesian Embassy holds 1st Culinary Night in Doha


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Embassy of Indonesia held its first Culinary Night taking diplomats and officials to a gastronomical experience yesterday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar H E Ridwan Hassan told The Peninsula that the event is part of the Year of Culture where his country will be of focus in 2023.

“We will be a partner country for the Year of Culture; and because culinary is part of culture and this is borderless, we can bond from different nationalities. And to know more about Indonesia, you can start from culinary and cultural aspect,” the Ambassador explained.

Qatar Museums run a cultural exchange programme every year aimed to convey Qatar to an international audience. In 2023, it will be focused on MENASA countries excluding Middle East and Africa. Moreover, Ambassador Hassan said that food brings a cultural bond,“and if you fly in our way, you will experience a completely different level, more than that, culinary is an important part of our daily lives, as we believe, it is a reflection of our heritage, diversity, and the true Indonesian hospitality.” 

The culinary night is aimed to introduce and promote the Indonesian culinary to the international community in Qatar. The true Indonesian culinary is marked by cuisines of Aceh, Melayu, Palembang, and Jaza, among others. During the night, guests were served a three-course meal. Appetizers are Pempek Palembang and Soto Ayam Lamongan; Main course was Indonesian Rijsttafel; and Desserts included Es Teler, Dadar Gulung, and Bika Ambon.

Among the dignitaries present in the event include Ambassadors from Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, South Korea, Turkey, Australia, and Sudan among others. Also General Managers from various hotels in the country.

Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam H E Tran Duc Hung said to The Peninsula that holding such event gives relevant information about Indonesia, from the food, people to culture. He added that he himself loves the Indonesian culture,“I attended several Asian affairs, and know a lot of Indonesian culture and people.”

The Indonesian government plans to develop 4,000 Indonesian restaurants worldwide aimed to promote the beauty and the diversity of Indonesian culinary.
Guests were treated to a world of Indonesian food in a night. Traditional cuisines were served, live demo cooking, and cultural performances were also conducted including“Tiga Dara” dance, presentation of Indonesian musical instrument“Angklung” accompanied by a traditional song and modern songs“Sway,” and“Don't worry, be happy.”
