Iraq: PKK assault leaves 3 Turkish soldiers dead


(MENAFN) On Monday, Aug. 16 the Turkish Defense Ministry stated that three Turkish soldiers lost their lives and two were injured by explosives inserted by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.

The ministry stated that one hand-made explosive inserted by the PKK in the region blasted on Sunday.

It further said that the wounded soldiers are now receiving medical attention at a hospital.

The assault occurred in a region where Turkey was conducting a cross-frontier drive.

The ministry noted later in a different statement on Monday that Turkish air operations have left three PKK members in Haftanin region and another four in Metina region of the northern Iraq dead.
