Lebanon announces three-day mourning over Kuwait Amir's demise


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Sept 29 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab on Tuesday announced a three-day mourning over the death of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In a statement, Diab also ordered lowering the flag at half-mast, and modifying the programs of radio and television channels.
He said: "The passing of the late Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is a great loss for the State of Kuwait and its brotherly people, for Lebanon, for the Arab world and for the world."
The Lebanese prime minister praised the late Amir as a "man of wisdom, dialogue, communication, and consensus among the Arab world."
On his part, Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri mourned the passing of Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, in a cable sent to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
"With his passing, Lebanon loses, just as Kuwait and the Arab and Islamic worlds and humanity as a whole, the voice of truth," Berri said.
Former Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri voiced sadness over the demise of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait.
He remembered Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad as a great man who occupied several posts and shouldered responsibilities over decades that witnessed numerous accomplishments, successes and initiatives that would remain engraved in the memories of the brotherly people of Kuwait.
Lebanon's ex-premiers Tammam Sallam and Najib Mikati mourned the death of His Highness the Amir, saying that Lebanon has lost a great friend who largely supported and helped its people in time of disasters.
They hailed the later Amir as having been a steadfast and staunch supporter and defender of all Arab issues. (Pick up previous)
