Afghanistan- Ghani: Customs Recruitments should be Independent
In a meeting with members of the Wolesi Jirga (Parliament), President Ashraf Ghani said that appointments at customs and revenue offices should be merit-based.
According to a statement ARG released, Ghani met with the chairmen and members of the Wolesi Jirga's economic and financial commissions on Monday.
The president stressed the need to take basic measures in the field of customs and said that appointments in customs and revenue agencies should be based on an open competition, the statement read.
Also, members of the Wolesi Jirga have called for the government to pay more attention to the implementation of laws in the country's customs and ports.
Earlier, released reports indicate that 50 percent of customs officials had been appointed by force through 47 members of the parliament.
