(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: An 85-year-old Qatari woman has recovered from the coronavirus, probably becoming the oldest patient of the pandemic in the country.

In a video shared by Ministry of Public Health, staff at Communicable disease Centre came together to say goodbye to the patient.

'This week staff from HMC's Communicable Disease Center (CDC) gathered to say goodbye to a special patient. The 85-year-old Qatari woman is believed to be the oldest person in the country who has recovered from COVID-19, MOPH said in a tweet.

In mid-March after complaining of fever and cough, the woman was diagnosed with COVID19 and admitted to the CDC for treatment. Earlier this week she was discharged from hospital after two consecutive tests confirmed she had been cured of the virus, said the HMC in its video.

HMC's Dr Muna Al Malamani, Dr Muna Al Rashid and Dr Mohammed Abu Khattab were among the group of doctors and nurses who gathered to say goodbye to the patient.

As of yesterday, May 5, 1,924 people recovered from Covid-19 and there are 15206 active cases in the country.

The Ministry of Public Health calls on all members of society to stay at home and not go out except in cases of necessity and to implement preventive measures and maintain physical distancing, including in the workplace and public places. The Ministry reminds people to use a face mask as recommended and avoid social visits to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
