Pakistan International School Qatar organises teacher training programme
The Pakistan International School Qatar (PISQ) has recently organised a 3-day teacher training programme. The Oxford University Press-led training provided the teachers with an opportunity to learn ‘on the job' at school and immediately put their new skills into practice.
It also aimed at fostering the teaching pedagogies of the teachers by making them abreast of the growing modern trends in the field of education. It has exclusively been designed to facilitate the entire teaching faculty of PISQ irrespective of the grade or subject they teach.
The workshops were hosted by the representatives of Oxford University Press, Uzma Khan and Shazia Asad. Uzma Khan is a trained and approved trainer and Regional Coordinator for Oxford Teachers' Academy courses at Oxford University Press.
She has over a decade's experience in education and training, and has facilitated numerous sessions both at national and international level. She has conducted several workshops in the past, and has invaluable teaching experience. She is a researcher, speaker and writer as well.
Similarly, Shazia Asad has an enthusiastic attachment with Mathematics, the study of math and the task of teaching math. She has had this enduring connection for over two decades and has conducted numerous workshops in mathematics for over 20 years at national and international level.
Both of these committed educationists delivered three days training sessions for the teachers at Pakistan International School, Doha Qatar to support the continuous professional learning and development needs of the teachers.
The map of these workshops was labelled as Skill Based Teaching of Language, Developing Fluency and Understanding In Mixed ability Classes, Strategies that Engage and Stimulate Analytical Skills, Activities That Connect Math to Real Life, Mental Numeracy and Agility Strategies, Reasoning and Problem Solving while Teaching Algebra, Interactive Teaching Approaches and aimed at Discovering Creativity in Students, Reading for Fun, Listening
Comprehension, Flip Teaching, Working in Peers, Group Studies, and Effective Use of Teaching Aids.
The session of the training programme was conducted in the Examination Hall and Library of PISQ. The trainers highlighted the key objectives, application and output of the training programme.
They conducted the workshop based on the activities by involving all the participants and by assigning the roles to the participating teachers.
They emphasised the use of body language, facial expressions, intonations and other techniques while teaching students in classrooms. It was a great learning experience, an additional skill in teaching methodology in classrooms.
