Kuwait Health Min. touts blood bank's US recognition


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- The Central Blood Bank of Kuwait is the first Arab bank ever to win the recognition of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Kuwait's health minister said Sunday.
The bank's tissue section also enjoys US recognition due to its distinguished performance, Basel Al-Sabah said in a press statement while opening a new blood transfusion center.
The minister also boasted that the Central Blood Bank of Kuwait is ranked third among accredited world banks in view of genetic examination of blood cells.
On the new blood transfusion center, he said it is the blood bank's largest project ever, laying bare that many other health projects were in the offing.
The health ministry hoped that such projects, including hospitals and clinics, would be in service at an early date.
The fresh medical facility covers more than 14,000 square meters and consists of five storeys, he elaborated.
The Central Blood Bank of Kuwait was founded on the 5th of May in 965 and was by then the first blood bank in the Arab world. (end)
