With the sharp drop of temperature to -0.1C on Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the UAE, the Ras Al Khaimah mountain was almost covered with snow and hail.
"This is mainly due to an extension of a surface low pressure east and northwards with an extension of surface high pressure westwards accompanied with an extension of upper air ridge," the National Centre forMeteorology (NCM), said.
The weather on Thursday is expected to be fair to partly cloudy in general, they added.

"You can expect moderate to fresh Southeasterly to Southwesterly winds, becoming Northwesterly, with a speed of 20 - 30, reaching 40kmhr."
"The sea will be moderate in the Arabian Gulf and rough becoming moderate by evening in Oman Sea."
As heavy snow and hail lashed the emirate, many residents took to the open areas to record the white blanket of snow.
Ahmed Al Shehi, an Emirati national, said it kept raining and snowing all night. "We have made many icemen here and dressed them in traditional clothes."
Police issues advisory

The RAK Police have issued warnings in Arabic, English, and Urdu to the public on the weather conditions on their social media accounts.
"The public is urged to call (999) in case of emergency and (901) in regular cases."
Schools remain open

The ministry of education affirmed, in a statement on Tuesday, that all schools shall remain open in Dubai and northern emirates "regardless of the showers."
"The ministry has given the power to the schools' management to decide on the same in view of the weather conditions giving top priority to students and staffers' safety."
"Some areas are not heavily affected by the rains and movement through the same are safe and pose no risk to the public."
