Turkey, Italy seek permanent solution for Libyan crisis
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte confirmed on Monday their countries' desire to reach a permanent solution to the Libyan crisis.
This came during a joint press conference after their meeting in the capital, Ankara.
Erdogan expressed the hope that a ceasefire agreement would be signed in Libya, describing the progress of the quartet talks in Moscow on the Libyan crisis as "going in the positive direction."
He considered that the Moscow talks would pave the way for the Berlin conference to be held in the German capital.
As for Syria, Erdogan said he is looking forward to an Italian support for Turkey's efforts to maintain the situation in the de-escalation areas in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.
For his part, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte considered the declared truce in Libya, on the initiative of Turkey and Russia, as hopeful.
Conte said that the Berlin meeting would help Libya move from tension to the stage of a political solution.
"I hope the cease-fire in Libya following the calls of Turkey and Russia comes in an appropriate ground for entering the path of peace', he said.
A ceasefire agreement between the Libyan parties to be signed in Moscow later today, before Berlin hosts an international conference in this regard this weekend.
The Moscow meetings, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Russia and Turkey, include the Prime Minister of the Libyan National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, and the military commander, Khalifa Haftar.
On Sunday, the Libyan parties declared a cease-fire in response to the invitation of the Turkish and Russian presidents.(end)
