Kuwait swears in Gulf's first-ever female Finance minister

São Paulo – A new administration was inaugurated this Tuesday (17) in Kuwait, and it includes a woman as the minister of Finance. Mariam Al-Aqeel (pictured) is the first female in this position ever in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) – comprising Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Kuwait.

According to regional news outlets, Al-Aqeel holds a degree in accounting from Kuwait University. December 2018 saw her appointed minister of State for Economic Affairs. On November 6, 2019 she'd become acting Finance minister.

Como ministra, Al-Aqeel vai acumular a presiAl-Aqeel is also the chairwoman of the Kuwait Investment Authority ( KIA ), which manages USD 592 billion in assets around the world according to the Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute ( SWFI ).
