
Jordan- Japan's Type 61 tank arrives at Royal Tank Museum
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Nov. 24 (Petra) -- Japan's legacy Type 61 Tank arrived at the Royal Tank Museum in Amman on Sunday joining more than 131 tanks and armored vehicles put on display at the museum.
A ceremony to mark the arrival of the medium legacy tank was held at the museum and was attended by Japanese ambassador to Jordan Hidenao Yanagi and embassy officials.
Development of the Type 61 Tank started in 1955 and the vehicle was first deployed in April 1961. The type number follows the year of deployment. A total of 560 Type 61s were manufactured between 1961 and 1975, when production ceased. The tank was decommissioned in 2000.
The Royal Tank Museum is a national museum with international standards, located in Amman, is considered the first specialized tank museum in the region, displaying more than 131 tanks within a 20,000 sqm.
