SHANGLA: A massive accident happened when three vehicles collided at Shaheeda Morr in Bisham tehsil of Shangla district on Friday. However, fortunately, no life loss occurred in the incident.

Local sources said it is fifth time that a road accident is happening at the same point during this month. TNN correspondent reported that three vehicles collided at Shaheeda Morr on Friday night and fell into a ravine. However, all the passengers in these vehicles survived miraculously.

A local citizen, Sabir Khan, said while talking to TNN that accidents routinely happen at Shaheeda Morr due to very narrow road. He said at least 17 accidents happened at Shaheeda Morr this year. He said substandard material was used in the construction of protective fences on the roadside. He said many accidents happen due to this reason, but no one has taken notice of the situation and accidents are continuously happening in the area in which people are losing their precious lives.

Sources said Shaheeda Morr, which is situated at a distance of four kilometres from Bisham, has virtually become a death trap due to faulty design by the consultant of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and political interference.

Recently, the vehicle of some guests coming to meeting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shaukat Yousafzai to offer Fateha for departed soul of his mother also met an accident at Shaheeda Morr.

Civil Engineer Tashin said while talking to TNN that the concerned engineer is responsible for use of quality material in any project and take correct measurements. However, he said, substandard material was used in the project due to negligence of concerned regional engineer and political interference.

The people of the area have called upon the government to widen the road and use quality construction material in protective fences. They said traffic accidents will continue to happen if the road was not widened with quality construction material.

Road accidents rottenly happen in Shangla and rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in mountainous areas, due to poor condition of roads and reckless driving by drivers. On narrow and dilapidated roads in mountainous areas, drivers drive the vehicles with considerable risk as a little mistake can result in accident.
