Cameroon army said that the government forces on Friday fought off an attack by armed separatists launched on government officials in Bamenda, which is the largest city in the country's restive Anglophone region.

Separatists tried to infiltrate a hotel in the city where senior government officials resided, but the troops dispatched in the area fought them off.

An officer who asked to remain anonymous said that "Some of the secessionist terrorists escaped with serious injuries".

Paul Atanga Nji, Minister of Territorial Administration, has also been staying in the hotel.
