Immigrants sinking illegal boat on Tunisia's southeastern coast

(MENAFN) Tunisian Naval Guard units recovered on Wednesday the body of an illegal immigrant after the sinking of an illegal boat, who was trying to cross the Mediterranean from Tunisia's southeastern coast.

Rachid Bouzidi, spokesman for the Southern Naval Guard Force, was quoted as saying by the Tunis Afrique Presse that "The boat of these illegal immigrants sank near Burj el-Kasteel, a region of Djerba district, carrying 10 people trying to cross the sea border discreetly,"

Six people have survived the dropping of the boat, and three others have fled, as said by the spokesman, attempts to immigrate illegally from Tunisia's 1,300-km coastline to Italy generally rise through summer, and such processes have been frequent within the current weeks.

The coast of Lampedusa, in the south of Italy, is the most chosen destination to its dreamers, as it is only 80 km to get to the Tunisian coast.
