S. Sudan seals mineral exploration agreement


(MENAFN) South Sudan was announced to have secured a deal on mineral exploration, enabling satellite imaging to work out mineral resources in the country.

Mining minister Gabriel Thokuj Deng penned the agreement with U.S. mining and metal refining firm REE-Magnesium as well as the Canadian CVMR Inc.

On the contract, the South Sudanese minister stated "today is a great day to begin real cooperation between South Sudan, U.S. and Canada to unlock the mineral wealth of my country. It has been quite a long time that South Sudan has been waiting for this day."

Under the agreement, the government of South Sudan will be able to tap into its mineral resources that cover petroleum, iron, copper, chromium, nickel, cobalt, zinc, tungsten, mica, silver, and gold.
