KABUL: Local inhabitants have been under extreme fear as Pakistani
troops have fired a new barrage of rockets into Shultan district of eastern
Kunar province, causing financial losses to people, local officials said Wednesday.

Kunar governor's spokesman, Abdul Ghani Musamam, said up to
200 rockets had been fired into Shultan district from across the Durand Line
since Monday evening – the day Afghanistan celebrated the centennial of its
Independence Day.

He said although the strikes caused no casualties this time,
they destroyed four houses, damaged farms and killed dozens of livestock.

Meanwhile, Khalilullah, a resident of Shultan district, said
that Pakistan forces fired many rockets into their district since last night.

'Women and children could not sleep due to these strikes, we
spent the whole night in fear,' he said. He asked the government to take
serious steps against Pakistani strikes.

Pakistani forces sporadically fire missiles into Kunar and
other eastern provinces since years. Besides causing casualties, many people
had been forced to flee their areas.
