UN General Assembly president due in Amman today


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — President of the UN General Assembly María Fernanda Espinosa is scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom for a four-day visit on Sunday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi will meet with Espinosa on Sunday evening, a UN statement said, adding that she will also hold talks with ministers, civil organisations and media personnel during her tour.  

On Monday, Espinosa will be received by Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, after which she will meet Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh, as well as members of the foreign affairs and environment committees, the statement said.

The leader of the UN General Assembly is also scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with Minister of Youth Mohammad Abu Rumman and members of the Ghor El Safi Women Association for Social Development, which is part of a UNESCO-supported initiative to advance women's economic empowerment.

On Tuesday, Espinosa will travel to the Zaatari Camp where she will be met by colleagues from UNHCR, UNICEF, the World Food Programme and others, the statement said, adding that the UN General Assembly president will also meet with women and girls from the camp to listen to their personal stories. 

During the official visit, Espinosa will also hold meetings with the UN Country Team in Amman, as well as with women leaders, and national and international media outlets.
