OTC announces tour guide training for Omanis, expats
Oman Tourism College (OTC) has announced the initiation of Tour Guide Training courses for Omani and expat tour guides in alignment with Oman's diversified tourism strategy.
With the qualifying age of Omani and expat tour guides reduced to 18 and 25 respectively, OTC has opened registration for the eight-month course which also offers students the opportunity to learn a new language such as English, Russian, German or French. In an attempt to further augment employment in the sultanate, especially within the tourism industry, OTC has partnered with various organisations to introduce the training tied to employment opportunity.
As per a statement, Omani candidates have the prospect to be sponsored by these organisations pending interviews scheduled to be held on June 24. The course is expected to commence mid-July. All applicants must have completed either a high-school diploma or a college diploma to be eligible to apply.
Dr Abdulkarim al Mughairi, dean of OTC said, 'With the Ministry of Tourism's announcement for the revised ages to work as a tourist guide, more and more Omanis are showing a keen interest in gainful employment as tour guides. 2019 has been hailed as the year for Oman's tourism, and economic experts have predicted the contribution of tourism to GDP is expected to rise to ten per cent from six per cent. Our vision is consistent with the nation's strategy for growth and we aim to equip the leaders of tomorrow with the right tools to facilitate said development.'
