(MENAFN) State media revealed that an acute watery diarrhea (AWD) epidemic in northern Ethiopia has claimed 12 lives.
Amhara Mass Media Agency declared that over 165 more are receiving medical care from the effects of the AWD outbreak, which is controlled in Ethiopia's Amhara regional state.
On Tuesday, an Ethiopian federal government official confirmed that a medical crew has been called to AWD-hit areas of Amhara regional state.
Federal, regional and zonal officials are in efforts to control the epidemic, however, the operation has been slowed down by the remoteness of the areas hit by the suspected cases of AWD as well as bad mobile phone and road networks, according to Beyene Moges, deputy director general of Ethiopia Public Health Institute.
