Oman- Exhibition on Islam held in New York


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The exhibition 'Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence: Oman's Message of Islam' was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York recently.

The exhibition was held under the auspices of María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, president of the United Nations General Assembly and Chef de Cabinet Maria Luiza Viotti the Chef de Cabinet to UN Secretary General António Guterres and in the presence of H E Ambassador Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations, Mohamed Said al Mamari, advisor at Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, the supervisor of the exhibition.

The exhibition in the UN is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs - Oman and the Permanent Mission of the sultanate of Oman to the United Nations. The opening ceremony was held in the presence of a number of eminent personalities at the UN.

Those attending included a number of ambassadors, heads of religious centres, academics and religious communities from New York.

The exhibition has been hosted in more than 122 cities worldwide in more than 36 countries, in educational institutions, museums, cultural centres, government agencies, and religious institutions, as well as in the Paris headquarters of Unesco.

The 24 panels in this exhibition present facets of a modern Arab country, and offer visitor insights into the practice of Islam in daily life, an examination of contemporary Omani society and the role of women in society. All related materials are currently available in 26 languages. A live performance given by Shaimah al Mughairy contributed to the opening ceremony with a sand art performance, depicting the historic and religious development of Omani society from the times of early Islam until today.

Calligrapher Mohammed al Sabei conveyed the value of the exhibition to the guests. He wrote the names of the guests on placards that they liked.
