Peruvian court sentences ex- President Kuczynski to jail

(MENAFN) A Peruvian judge has sentenced previous President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to 36 months of preventive jail, as authorities probe his alleged role in fraud.

Peru's judicial authority declared that Kuczynski, who already spent 10 day in prison since April 10, "is being investigated for money laundering ... being a part of a criminal organization."

Last week, Kuczynski was nabbed in an underway probe into Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht and its alleged bribery of government officials.

Congressman Gilbert Violeta confirmed that Kuczynski had been shifted to hospital over a cardiac attack following the preliminary detention ruling.
