Oman- Students exhibit art at Liwa Fort
Called 'Art exhibition in a tourist site', it was held at Liwa Fort last week. The event came within the tourism awareness programme of MoT in cooperation with MoE to hold art exhibitions involving school students in various forts and tourist sites across Oman.
Many school students attended the event and made paintings. These paintings were an expression of Omani heritage and tradition.The wilayat of Liwa in the Governorate of North Batinah is famous for Liwa Fort, which is located about one and a half kilometres from the centre of the wilayat near the sea.
It was built more than 400 years ago and was used for protection and as the residence of the wali, and a place to discuss and manage the wilayat's affairs. The fort contains a high wall and five observation towers, in addition to a main entrance, locally known as 'Al Sabah'.The fort also contains 'Kasbah', which is the highest building in the fort and consists of three floors, five rooms and two halls, in addition to a main entrance, a well.
In addition, there are three wells scattered in the fort at various sites, which were used in the past for many purposes, including cooking and irrigating plants in the fort. The fort is surrounded by houses and date palm trees.
