PNC slams Jerusalem recognition as Israeli capital

(MENAFN) In a statement issued on Monday, the Palestinian National Council (PNC) criticized strongly the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

It comes after several countries started mulling over the possibility of moving their embassies to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv.

PNC, an affiliate of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), affirmed that no nation has the right to unilaterally make such a move.

This decision, the PNC stressed, would entail "a violation of international resolutions calling on all states to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in the city of Jerusalem."

"Whoever recognizes occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupying state is considered a partner and protector of this colonial occupation and violates the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and successive resolutions... including [UN] Security Council Resolution 2334 of 2016," it added.
