3rd Annual Community Basketball Competition Scheduled For Saturday, March 30. Everyone Wins!

(MENAFN- PRLog) The Greater Newburgh Rotary Club with its sponsored youth organization, Newburgh Free Academy Interact Club, are busy planning the third-annual community basketball fundraiser event at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) gym for Saturday, March 30, from 9 to 12 noon.

The Hoops & Swish Basketball Fun-Raiser is a basketball shoot-off-contest, designed to involve a large part of the greater Newburgh community, as a shooter, a sponsor or a non-profit beneficiary.

Each participating shooter is given two minutes to shoot baskets (lay-ups or any other legal shots). Each participant will receive a T-shirt and winners in many categories will be announced. All ages are welcome from 5 to 105.

The Rotary organized Hoops and Swish Basketball Fun-Raiser, uniquely, benefits the Greater Newburgh community in four ways: Not only is it a healthy clean event, especially for our youth; it raises mines for local charities via local businesses sponsorships of the event, proceed-sharing with non-profits, family, friends or colleagues. In other words, business can sponsor the event, non-profits can participate and earn money, and individual shooters will test their prowess while their efforts draw monies to contribute to their chosen charities. Finally, Rotary's share of proceeds will be contributed back to community's non-profits/charities, consistent with the mission of the local and International Club.

Both of our past Hoops & Swish basketball events have been enthusiastically enjoyed. The Newburgh Rotary President Deborah Sager said, "The Club has designated children to be the primary beneficiaries of this event and again this year. Over 30 organizations have benefited fro this event. I'm so proud of "Hoops & Swish" because there are few events that contribute to our community so greatly while being so much good fun!"

The Rotary Organizing Committee members are Chair Doug Struomski, Dan and Karen Olson, Andrew Ciccone, Cathy McCarty, Bob McCurdy, Lily Byrnes, Dorie Driscoll and Knut Johnsen.

Rotary is now calling for business sponsors for the event, as we all as nonprofits, businesses and individuals to "back" the shooters. Talk to a Rotarian you know, or got on Rotary's website http://www.newburghrotary.com/Hoops , or call Doug at 845-242-5545 for details and to express interest in a sponsorship or participation.
