Amazon quits on new HQ in NY

(MENAFN) U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon has canceled its plans to set up a new headquarters in New York City, although it has most New Yorkers support.

Some local politicians, trade unions and community activists were blamed for the company's change of mind.

According to the company, it would not establish a new headquarters due to opposition from "some state and local politicians."

It said: "after much thought and deliberation, we've decided not to move forward with our plans to build a headquarters for Amazon in Long Island City, Queens."

The company's decision to abandon its second national headquarters in the Queens borough was a result of resistance from some local officials, unions and community activists, said a professor of International Marketing at University of San Francisco.
