Jordan- King meets media figures, analysts specialised in domestic, regional affairs

Amman, Feb. 10 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah, at a meeting with media figures and commentators specialised in regional and domestic affairs on Sunday, stressed the importance of having a roadmap that clarifies to Jordanians the steps and measures to develop political, economic and social conditions.

During the meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, King Abdullah said the economic situation is the main challenge facing Jordan, which requires intensifying cooperation between the public and private sectors, professional associations, and civil society organisations to identify economic priorities and develop solutions that would increase economic growth and create jobs.

Discussing political reforms, His Majesty referred to his ongoing meetings with parliamentary blocs and civil society institutions, which take place within the framework of discussing means to develop political life.

The King expressed confidence in young Jordanians, who represent the majority of society, highlighting the need to encourage youth's political engagement, giving them a greater role in the decision-making process.

His Majesty noted that parliamentary blocs and political parties must have clear and relevant platforms representing all Jordanians and stemming from their daily concerns, pointing to the need to develop the laws governing political life.

The King also stressed the importance of forging ahead with administrative reform, combating corruption, implementing the e-government programme, and attracting investments by utilising the advantages and opportunities offered by the Jordanian economy in many vital sectors.

Discussing his visit to Iraq, His Majesty noted the recent economic and trade agreements signed between the two governments.

The King also referred to his visit to Turkey and Tunisia last week, during which political and economic files were discussed, noting that improving regional conditions will have a positive impact on the economy.

His Majesty emphasised the need for the government and the private sector to work together to utilise Jordan's international relations to open up new horizons that positively benefit the national economy.

The meeting also covered the upcoming international conference co-hosted by Jordan and the UK government in London at the end of this month, with the King describing it as an important platform to showcase the economic and fiscal measures taken by Jordan to promote investments and create employment opportunities.

In addition, the upcoming World Economic Forum Meeting on the Middle East and North Africa, which will be hosted by Jordan at the Dead Sea for the 10th time, was also discussed.

Turning to the Palestinian issue, His Majesty reiterated Jordan's firm and unwavering position, describing it as the Kingdom's central cause.

The King affirmed that Jordan is committed to standing with the Palestinians as they seek their legitimate rights to an independent Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Discussing the developments of the Syrian crisis, His Majesty stressed the need for a political solution that preserves Syria's territorial integrity and the unity of its people.

The King also affirmed Jordan's ongoing commitment to activating joint Arab action and unifying Arab positions to address various challenges.

For their part, attendees called for developing political life by building on His Majesty's discussion papers, stressing the importance of developing the Election Law.

They also highlighted the need to promote investments, urging mega-projects in transport, tourism, housing, energy, and water, while focusing on technical and vocational education.

The attendees commended Jordan's positions on regional crises, calling for developing the state's media messaging to counter rumours, and highlighting the importance of media freedom.

Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi and Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas attended the meeting.
