Turkey receives U.S. plan to establish Syrian safe zone

(MENAFN) Turkey and the U.S. reached an understanding during a phone conversation between their leaders.

It comes ahead of a suggestion Trump made for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to set up a safe zone with a 32 km depth in northeastern Syria.

Such a safe zone, the U.S. President further noted, will be established by the Turkish army.

The Turkish president stated: "Mr. Trump once again confirmed his decision to pullout from Syria. He also spoke on a security zone for more than 30 kilometers deep inside (Syria), which would be set up by us."

A White House statement also said: "the president expressed the desire to work together to address Turkey's security concerns in northeastern Syria while stressing the importance to the United States that Turkey does not mistreat the Kurds and other Syrian Democratic Forces."
