U.S sanctions on Iran encourage Iraq to boost ties with Tehran

(MENAFN) Leader of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim, in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, convicted the U.S' one-sided sanctions against Iran, and stated that Washington's pressures make Baghdad more stanch to boost relations with Tehran.

On Sunday, Ammar al-Hakim affirmed that the US unilateral sanctions against Iran make Iraq all the more resolute to enhance ties with the Islamic Republic.

The Iraqi politician made the comments in a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif and his accompanying delegation in Baghdad.

The imposition of unilateral sanctions by the U.S. is an unparalleled move in international communications, he emphasized, adding "Iran has always supported Iraq, and as such, we oppose and condemn the sanctions."
