Oman- People living near green spaces have less chances of heart diseases: Study

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- People living in neighbourhoods with larger green areas may be less stressed and have lower risk of heart attacks and strokes, according to a study.

Researchers at the American Heart Association said that at the level of the population as a whole, long-term green areas in residential areas have been linked to a long-term reduction in risk of death due to heart diseases, respiratory problems and reduced risk of hospitalisation due to heart attacks and strokes.

The researchers tested a range of vital signs of stress and risk of heart disease in 408 patients in a heart hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, using satellite data from NASA and the US Geological Survey to estimate the size of green spaces where everyone lives.

The study found that levels of adrenaline were lower in the samples of green neighbourhoods compared to people living in lesser green areas.

This indicates lower levels of stress and increased ability of people living in green areas to maintain healthy arteries compared to those living in limited green spaces, the researchers found.
