Afghans should get prepared for peace: Ghani


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has asked district governors to mobilise the public on the issue of improving security and getting prepared for the enforcement of peace in the country.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said President Ashraf Ghani, at the end of the second National Conference of District Chiefs, called them a bridge between the government and the nation.

€œI found national consensus in your views that would lead to peace, stability and prosperity in the country,€ the statement quoted the president as telling the district chiefs during the conference.

Ghani urged the district chiefs€™ presence in their offices and directed them to reports to the centre. He said they should also provide reports on the presence of judges and prosecutors to the National Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).

Ghani directed his national security advisor to hire a young man from each district for closer relations with districts and the National Security Council (NSC).

He also ordered telecom institutes to facilitate district chiefs with the Internet and telephone facilities. Ghani asked the district chiefs to mobilise people for improving security, ensure public partnership for change in human resources.

The president also instructed the district heads to make elaborate preparations for peace and transparent management of the upcoming elections.

Abdul Matin Baig, IDLG head, presented his report about their activities to the president. He said the district chiefs had comprehensive discussions during the two-day meeting and explained their views, problems and suggestions.

Later, a number of district chiefs floated suggestions regarding foiling the enemy propaganda, social contracts, improving relations between departments, creation of regional army and people-centric governance.

Mohammad Omar Daudzai, president€™s special representative for regional affairs, said that peace efforts would succeed and the message should be shared with local people.

€œWe want lasting peace on fair terms to strengthen our national unity,€ he remarked.

Abdul Qadir Adalatkhwa, a Supreme Court member who also present attended the conference, assured the apex court€™s cooperation with district chiefs on law enforcement.
