PM attends Qatar Radio Golden Jubilee celebrations

Doha: H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, witnessed yesterday the ceremony held by Qatar Radio to mark its 50th anniversary of founding (Golden Jubilee) at the Westin Hotel.

The ceremony was attended by H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, Speaker of the Shura Council, a number of Their Excellencies sheikhs and ministers, a number of senior officials of the Qatar Media Corporation and employees of radios and television channels affiliated to the corporation along a number of the diplomatic corps accredited to the State.

H E Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar Media Corporation, said: 'Since its establishment, the radio has contributed to enriching awareness and culture in the society and it has witnessed important stages in the country's history.

His Excellency praised the role of the pioneering generation, who took over the responsibility of the radio from the citizens and Arabs nationals, who contributed to the establishment of the radio and its development over the past fifty years keeping pace with latest development in media sector in our country and its professionalism in keeping up with events and excellence in performance achievements which would not have been reached without the support of the wise leadership.

He added that the radio project was the first media seed in Qatar and surroundings countries. Today we remember the first generation to give them their right to what they did in the march of the development of Qatar radio and the Qatari media.

H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, CEO of QMC, praised the efforts of the first generation of the radio who exerted their efforts to be the cause of Qatar Radio in the community and the region through its career.

During the ceremony, a documentary film about Qatar Radio was broadcast about the history and origins of the radio since 1968, through its stages of development and future projects.
H E Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, CEO of Qatar Media Foundation, honoured former directors, radio staff, artists and anyone with a footprint in the development of Qatar Radio, as well as a number of organisations in the country.
